Innovation & Building Smarter: Why Barns Are Replacing Trailers for
Project Site Offices

On most jobsites, temporary office space comes in one predictable form: a long line of trailers brought in to be used for the length of the project. Foundry Partners has more than 500 employees needing workspace on this project. The team chose an innovative path that reflects a deep level of planning, safety, and sustainability.

Instead of bringing in traditional work trailers, the project team committed to being uncommon and chose to build barns instead. At first glance, the difference might seem cosmetic. In actuality, it is a decision grounded in long term value.

The barns also reflect a commitment to sustainability and community investment. When the project concludes, they won’t be discarded or left behind. Instead, the structures will be fully dismantled, with materials recycled in alignment with LEED initiatives.

Plastics can be processed into new construction products, lumber can be reclaimed for reuse, and concrete can be crushed and repurposed as aggregate for future projects. By choosing materials with recyclability in mind, we reduce waste, extend the life of the resources we depend on, and significantly lower our overall environmental footprint. Even the construction phase contributes positively to the community. We contracted local and diverse companies to build our office barns, helping strengthen our local impact while supporting inclusive economic growth.

In the end, these barns are far more than temporary walls and roofs. They represent a deliberate choice, one that balances cost savings, safety, environmental responsibility, and community partnership. It’s a reminder that even short-term solutions can be built with long-term vision.
