Excellence: Envisioning the Site with Technology
From SR 32, you can see a crane, and some walls on The Lilly Medicine Foundry Site. Through technology, we can already see every detail of the finished project. Large construction sites often use Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) programs to create a virtual model of the project. Foundry Partners uniquely incorporates Drone Deploy, our quality assurance tool, to increase efficiency, ultimately saving time and money.
BIM creates a detailed 3D digital model of a building, capturing everything from measurements to materials. VDC adds time and scheduling as a fourth dimension, producing a “digital twin” of the project. The digital model shows what will be built, when and how. These programs act as a communication bridge, making complex plans easy to understand. Before a single shovel hits the ground, we can show where roads will go, walk through virtual buildings, and proactively spot and solve potential problems.
We’ve taken BIM and VDC a step further by pairing them with Drone Deploy. Using drones and 360° cameras, our inspectors on-site compare the digital model to real-world conditions in real-time. By capturing and creating all these views, inspectors, the field team, engineers and project managers literally get on the same page to check for accuracy and solve problems quickly. Using these programs in tandem is a brand-new construction practice, and another example of the innovation that Foundry Partners is known for.
